Smoothie Season

March 8, 2015

Smoothie Season Is Here!

I don’t know about the rest of you – but I feel like winter is gone and summer is already upon us. Here in sunny Southern California we’ve had highs in the upper 70’s and that makes me crave a nice refreshing smoothie! What better way to beat the heat and satisfy your cravings?

Yes, smoothies are generally filled with fruit, which means they are high in sugars, so I can’t live off of them. But it helps to add some greens and protein to balance out the fruit content and round out your smoothie. Not only does this make your drink more nutritious, but for me it helps me kick off the day on the right foot (or restart if I’ve been eating crap all day). Plus they’re delicious!

So here’s what I’ve been drinking lately. It makes enough for 2, or just one large smoothie.

1/2 avocado
1 large handfull of chopped lacinato kale
4 strawberries
1/2 cup frozen berries (raspberries and black berries)
1/4 cup of sliced almonds
splash of orange juice
fill the blender up about 1/3 of the way with water (or almond milk if you like an even creamier texture!)

Drink up!
