If you haven’t already jumped onto the adult coloring bandwagon, I insist that you start. Now! I’ve always loved art, there’s something so incredibly meditative about putting color on canvas. But sometimes I just don’t have the bandwidth to come up with an original piece of art on my own, so I started turning to coloring! It may seem like an odd connection, but to me meditation and coloring are a match made in heaven. Even just taking a few minutes to focus on having total control over a piece of paper, where there are absolutely no consequences, is such a great stress reliever.
A while back my sister and I bought coloring books and had a coloring night at her place. It was so fun, and really brought out some creativity and brought up some interesting topics. Ok, so that delicious bottle of wine didn’t hurt either. But we really dove into some deep topics that night, and I think a lot of that was due to the level of clear focus that coloring requires. It takes some time to get into it, but once you do, the time flies! So when I got back home and didn’t have a coloring partner anymore, I guess I felt like I needed a reason to color. So I bought this super sweet daily coloring calendar! Every day I get to color a new design, and then on the back I write something that I am grateful for that day. It’s become a very meditative practice for me to just tune out the world for 10 or 15 minutes each day and just focus on creating something unique. Sometimes beautiful, and sometimes… interesting… but always unique and perfect in it’s own right.
