A Yoga Teacher’s Dream

October 9, 2014

As someone who was always so timid about going to new yoga studios and classes, I am finally learning how it feels to be on the other side – It’s great! I’ve always been the student who shows up to class quietly and inconspicuously, avoiding eye contact or the dreaded small talk. I just alway wanted to show up, zone in, and leave. Yoga hasn’t been so much about human connection for me until recently. It was always more about self exploration and inward focus. While those are still equally important, I am learning that it is just as important to take advantage of the opportunity to create a connection with someone when you have the opportunity.

I was blessed to have 2 new students in class today who found me online, just by happening upon my website. The woman came in so excited about taking class, passionate about yoga, and inquisitive about teaching yoga. What a treat! As a yoga teacher it feels so wonderful to encounter like-minded people with a desire to learn and grow with you. It’s exhilarating to have conversations with fellow yogis about your dreams, goals, challenges. And then to be able to share a practice with someone after making that connection really transforms the experience as a teacher.

I, the ultimate introvert, also managed to engage in conversation about my true love (yoga) with a nurse and a bartender today. This is something I never do – Or rather, I should say, I never would have done… before. Before Yoga Teacher Training I never would have initiated a conversation about this sort of this with a complete stranger.

Slowly I am coming into my own skin, and it feels so good to be able to open up and share myself with others. After today, I don’t think I will ever sheepishly slink into the back of a new class ever again. All I can hope is to be able to influence someone else like myself to come out of their shell a bit earlier. Life is so wonderful on the other side!

The lesson here? Never hide who you are. Never be ashamed, reluctant, or scared to share your story.

You are worthy.

You are strong.

You are beautiful.

You are gloriously YOU!

That’s awesome! It’s so great to connect with people over things you are passionate about.
