Well, it’s a whole new day and a whole new year, and while I have LOTS of ideas about what the next year might bring for me, and the direction I want to move, I realized that I never really sat down and settled on a New Years Resolution. So, today I just dove straight into some of the things I want to do more of this year, and decided that I would try to nail down something a little more concrete by the end of the day. So, after getting my workout in at Training For Life, walking the pups around the neighborhood, and prepping meals for the week, I have settled on 3 New Years Resolutions for this year.
1 – Discipline
I have always found it easier to just sort of roll my way into and out of things in life as it suits me. And that works for some things. Not having attachment to too many things leaves you open to lots of experiences. BUT, if you never really keep yourself in check when it comes to the important stuff, then you’re just kind of floating. So this year, I want to hold myself accountable more. Some things that I want to build discipline around are:
- My yoga practice
- Eating healthy
- Walking my dogs
- Getting my own exercise, and
- Goal setting
Which brings me to resolution number 2.
2 – Self Improvement
I dabble in a lot of things – yoga, boxing, art, blogging – but I have a tendency to find a comfortable place and just stay put. If I’m being honest, this is born of a little bit of laziness and a little bit of fear. I mean, heck, if it ain’t broke… BUT there is so much out there to learn that can benefit our lives and make the world a better place. So this year, I plan to reach a little.
Some ways I plan to grow this year are
- Maintaining a regular (and balanced) exercise routine
- Meditate regularly
- Sign up for Yoga immersions/workshops
- Watch more TED Talks
- Take a class in something that interests me
3 – Giving
This one is pretty straightforward – I just want to give more to my fellow man. We are all people, and we’re all on this crazy journey together, so why not do my part to make someone else’s journey more pleasant? In my case, I intend to give in many ways, as opposed to just giving money to the poor. I want to affect EVERYONE’s lives in some way.
Some ways I plan to give more:
- Donate to charities
- Bring baked goods to my colleagues at work
- Buy a stranger’s coffee
- Post free meditations / yoga practices
So that’s it. And now it’s in writing, so there’s no pretending I never wanted to do these things. A little ambitious? Maybe. But maybe the new Brenna is a little ambitions 😉
Happy New Year All

Love these intentions / resolutions. Simplicity is where it’s at!
Simplicity is all there is! We humans are just really good at complicating simple things. 😛
So good to see this nice little blog come back to life! Your resolutions are so much better than mine! Keep it going. I love to read your wise remarks.

to living our best lives indeed! we only get the one afterall – may as well make the best of it!
Check out the TedTalk app! Oprah and Deepak also have a meditation app and at least a few times a year they have a free meditation series which are pretty cool. Best of luck. Would love to catch up soon.
I have the TED talk app! I’ve been watching one when I wake up in the morning so that I can wake up a little, and start my day inspired. It’s great! Still haven’t done the Oprah meditation but maybe I’ll give it a shot this year. 🙂
I love these! Thanks for motivating me.
